Minang is 'Minangkabau', a clan in Sumatra. The clan has a symbiotic relationship with the buffalo, or 'kerbau' in Malay or 'korobau' or 'kobau' in the Minang dialect. 'Minangkabau' is derived from 'menang kerbau' -- win buffalo. The Sumatran clans pitch their buffalos against each other, and the Minangs have the reputation of having the fastest buffalos in Sumatra.
This blog isn't much use to anyone else though. There are no revelations and no discussions -- just a Minang's folly.
Had very close call with a hawk yesterday on the Mavic's maiden flight. It was scary to say the least. Imagine if it had gotten hold of the drone ... a crashed maiden flight would be the result.
Apart from the hawk, I came close to coming away with a disastrous first flight;
1. Just beyond the school (in the video) were power lines and I had no idea where my drone was in relation to these.
2. While backing away from the hawk, I lost orientation on where my drone was in relation to the take off point and I descended it not realising that I was already over the roof of a house and could easily have hit a TV antenna or some other structures.
Tonight I was taking some shots of a newly completed mosque at Lima Kedai.
All went OK until I was descending; I was distracted by a green and red light above me which I thought was my Phantom 3 and kept descending until I noticed that although I heard the Phantom getting louder and louder the two lights weren't moving and when I realise they did not belong to my drone, my drone was just 1.5m from the ground!!! It was descending and I wasn't looking at it but at some strange lights (reflection off my glasses perhaps?). I could have hit a lamp post while coming down!
But the night started badly; first I didn't bring the lightning cable for the iPad Mini 4 and 2) the Huawei Mediapad 2 wasn't charged.
So I used the phone instead.
Yes. I think the red and green lights were reflections on my glasses of the traffic lights behind me.
Otherwise it was an 'OK' night ...
I have been flying these camera drones for a good 3 years, and yet I still make mistakes...silly ones like today's.
Penat. Tired of stuff. Tired of not achieving what I set out to achieve. Tired of seeing our influence and impact diminish since March. Our YouTube views are dismal. We've not recovered our 'popularity' since our site was unstable, since some techie decided that our videos shouldn't be given out for free and unilaterally closed access to non-subscribers. We haven't recovered.
So I'm tired. I don't know now if what we are doing is worth it. Who watches and what impact do we have?
